Complimentary Colours

Composite Image.jpg

Complimentary Colours is a group exhibition of Hume-based artists who use colour to explore the complex dimensions of their observed and inner worlds.

Using a range of artistic mediums such as digital photography, textiles and painting techniques, the artists depict images inspired by their intuitive responses to botanical and urban environments. Some capture their observations directly, while others render familiar subjects uncanny.

Together their work communicates the subtle and exaggerated qualities of colour such as light, shadow, texture and saturation that can mirror or abstract reality, influence perception, convey emotion and ultimately mediate our internal relationship with the external world.

Each artist was originally scheduled to exhibit throughout 2020 before lockdowns closed or disrupted public exhibitions. Complimentary Colours celebrates the physicality of their work and offers gallery visitors an opportunity to reflect on their own responses to colour.
