The Black Summer fires of 2019/20 will forever be remembered as a choking inferno that decimated wildlife, homes and lives.
Fired Up pays homage to the spirit of our resilient nation and celebrates those times where help appears when you least expect it and from a mate you’ve never met.
We all start as strangers and in uncertain times, kindness connects us all.
This exhibition features a short documentary film and a selection of photographs produced by the Australian Federal Police Community Liaison Team (CLT), in partnership with the Australian Islamic Centre (AIC), Human Appeal and Blueprint Studios. It tells the story of AIC volunteers who travelled to fire-affected zones to provide essential supplies to communities in critical need.
An overwhelming message of gratitude and mateship is reflected in a series of interviews. Many people spoke of feeling forgotten and that the COVID 19 pandemic had stolen their ability to grieve and move forward. The film captures responses from Australians who had not had the opportunity to meet Muslim Australians prior to receiving much-need food and fire-relief assistance.
