Such Beauty of a Creature by Kathy Medbury and Chris Elsbury

Such Beauty of a Creature image

This exhibition celebrates two Hume artists’ ability to capture the character and colour of wild creatures.

Kathy Medbury and Chris Elsbury present a series of painted and drawn pictures of birds, animals and insects. Both artists use close observation and delicate linework to render detailed and lifelike portraits of their subjects.

A gentle sense of humour is present in many of these images, suggesting the artists’ desire to capture the inner personality of the creatures they portray.

Kathy Medbury has a background in graphic art and currently lives in the Macedon ranges. She hopes her acrylic and watercolour images inspire others to take the time to seek wildlife in nature and to participate in protecting the environments in which they live for future generations.

Chris Elsbury works on a tinted paper to bring out the strong colour and lustre of his detailed pencil and pen drawings. Many of his subjects appear paused in motion, as if encouraging the viewer to appreciate the quiet dignity in all living creatures.
