Transition by Manan Walia

Manan Walia Echoes-in-the-woods

Manan Walia is an Indian artist who has lived in Australia for seven years with her immediate family. Her paintings express her strong desire to connect with the Australian landscape - as a way of finding her way into her new culture and home.

This show fulfills many objectives outlined in the Hume Multicultural Framework - connecting creativity with community and personal professional development.

Here is Manan talking about her work:

Transition’ is my journey in more than one way. While adapting to a new social, cultural and physical environment has been full of excitement and adventure, it has also had silent and solemn moments. One thing that has always given me respite in chaotic moments is nature, with which I am blessed in abundance here. I am in awe of the majestic gum trees, they have been my constant companions on this journey and my main subject. My artwork is mostly acrylic paint on canvas, with some addition of oil pastels and found bark and leaves. The paintings vary from being representational to abstract portrayals of nature. From light-filled, vibrant hues to dark, mysterious shades, I have played with all the colours!
