Last night, Hume City Council Mayor, Cr Joseph Haweil and CEO Sheena Frost extended a wholehearted thank you to businesses for their contribution to the City of Hume and their collaboration and support for projects and activities throughout a challenging year.

The last 12 months and more have challenged Hume’s community, particularly the business community who have navigated a myriad of restrictions and lockdowns. Some businesses have had to reconsider their business models all together.

Hume City’s businesses support the economic prosperity of the region by providing employment opportunities and delivering exceptional products and services.

The Hume Business Awards have actively supported businesses in the region for 20 years and celebrate a dynamic group of Hume businesses with passion, energy, and perseverance who have played a significant role in keeping the economic viability of Hume alive.

As there were no awards held in 2020, Council recognised the hardship Hume businesses have endured during the pandemic amongst a diversity of strong applications this year by awarding two winners from 12 categories, along with two major awards.

Campbellfield’s pre-fabricated building supplier iBuild Building Solutions won major award category Business of the Year for 2021 and Sunbury-based café and catering company Krash & Co was awarded Business Leader of the Year.

As part of a pandemic response plan, Council has sought to support Hume’s business community with a range of programs including support and growth grants, webinars, mental health programs and employment programs.

Applications for the 2022 Hume Business Awards will open in May next year.

Hume City Council Mayor, Cr Joseph Haweil said:

“This is a remarkable, diverse and resilient community. And these characteristics have been reflected in Hume’s businesses throughout what has been a most difficult and challenging time.”

“Hume businesses employ over 115,000 people, making a strong contribution to the local, state and national economy. That fact alone deserves recognition.”

“The Hume Business Awards are about celebrating our Hume business community, recognising and appreciating the effort, energy and achievement they have delivered, contributing directly to growing prosperity in Hume City.”
