Tuesday 27 April, between 9am - 3pm.
John Laffan/Donnybrook Reserve, Craigieburn
Wednesday 28 April, between 9am - 3pm.
Hume City Council’s Conservation Team and Contractors will be conducting a series of Controlled Burns for Ecological and Fuel Reduction purposes across the municipality from April to May in open space and conservation reserves including:
- Mt. Ridley
Every few years the use of fire helps control weeds, germinate indigenous seed, reduce fuel loads and to reduce the impact of bushfires on public land.
Council officers conducting the burns are experienced and trained in this work. Before every burn, Council carefully assesses the weather, dryness of the vegetation and site geography. Council will burn small sections at a time and monitor fire grounds until the areas are declared safe.
If you have health queries relating to smoke exposure you should seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24. Traffic will be managed where smoke may affect local roads.
If you are driving near a controlled burn you should turn on your headlights and take extra care because of poor road visibility.
During controlled burns, weather conditions are monitored on site and VicFire are notified of the burn. Crews remain on site until no visible signs of smoke has been detected. Post burn monitoring occurs following the planned burns.
