The Victorian Government and Hume City Council are making commuting easier for hundreds of Sunbury locals with a new multi-deck car park at Sunbury Station to improve parking and improve access to public transport.

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull today announced the new car park is one step closer with Hume City Council unveiling concept images following the completion of a Design and Feasibility Study.

“Improving car parking capacity at Sunbury Station is crucial to servicing this thriving local community,” Minister Bull said.

“Today’s announcement is an important step in expanding car parking at Sunbury Station to ensure we meet the future needs of both commuters and shoppers.”

Hume City Mayor, Councillor Carly Moore, said Council is proud to deliver the new Evans Street Car Park following a long advocacy campaign for improved public transport and car parking in Hume.

“There is significant demand for all-day parking near the Station when our community is commuting back and forth to Melbourne,” Cr Moore said.

“These extra spaces will reduce congestion on our local roads and allow more people to catch the train and get where they need to go.”

The project will add to safety around the station with improvements to pedestrian pathways, bicycle facilities and lighting.

The car park will feature accessible parking, improved storage facilities for cyclists and improved access for pedestrians.

Hume City Council is working with the Victorian Government to finalise funding arrangements for the second stage to jointly deliver this project for the Sunbury community.

Construction is expected to start in 2021.
