Hume locals and residents of the fast-growing suburb of Kalkallo welcomed the opening of a new recreation precinct on Saturday 25 June.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore was joined by the Member for Yuroke, The Hon. Ros Spence, and Stockland representatives to officially open the Kalkallo Recreation Reserve and celebrate with locals at a special Festival of Sport community day.

Attendees enjoyed free activities including sporting drills hosted by local clubs Donnybrook Cricket Club, Hume Bombers Football Club, Hume Tennis Centre, face painting, giant-sized games, as well as delicious food and drinks.

The $13 million reserve is the newest facility for Kalkallo and will provide residents and surrounding communities with an opportunity to participate in a range of sport and recreation activities.

The Kalkallo Recreation Reserve features:

  • two playing fields for cricket and football
  • cricket nets
  • volleyball court
  • basketball half courts
  • pavilion
  • BBQ area
  • playground
  • tennis courts
  • outdoor fitness stations.

The reserve will become the home of grassroots sports and allow local clubs Hume Bombers Football Club and Donnybrook Cricket Club to thrive and ensure that future generations have the space to get involved in sport and to connect with their broader community.

Kalkallo Recreation Reserve was delivered in partnership between Hume City Council and Stockland. In addition, the pavilion was delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government under the Growing Suburbs Fund.
