Hume City Council Mayor, Cr Carly Moore was joined by Minister for Local Government, The Hon. Shaun Leane MP and Member for Sunbury, Josh Bull MP in Sunbury today to kick off the development of three outdoor projects and commemorate the completion of another.

With investment from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, each project will improve the amenity and accessibility of Sunbury and ensure its open spaces meet the needs of the local community.

The Connecting the Sunbury Town Centre project was recently completed and creates a more connected shopping district for locals, through new footpaths, landscaping and lighting.

Upgrades to the Forrest Street Playspace and Village Green Playspace will improve opportunities for the community to experience the diversity of open space on offer.

Upgrades in Sunbury continue with the Melba Ave Streetscape project, which will encourage people to stay longer, meet with friends and neighbours and support local businesses.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said:

“Today is a wonderful day for the Sunbury community as we commence construction on three projects, and complete another – all which will improve the amenity and accessibility of local outdoor spaces.”

“Locals can expect a more connected and vibrant shopping experience in town with the official opening of the upgraded Sunbury laneways.”

“We hope the improvements to accessibility and pedestrian-friendly upgrades will encourage people to walk to the Melba Avenue shops and reduce traffic congestion in Sunbury.”

“Upgrades of Forrest Street Reserve Playspace and Village Green Playspace will make the site more accessible and inclusive, to cater for a larger cross section of the community.”

“We thank the Victorian Government for their support under the Growing Suburbs Fund, to make these projects possible for our community.”
