As of 1 July 2021, all electricity for Council buildings and street lighting will be sourced from GreenPower, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 17,500 tonnes (CO2-e) per year. That’s equivalent to removing an average of 5,000 Australian cars from the road!

GreenPower is renewable energy (such as wind power and solar power) from government-accredited sources.

Through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, Council has been able to source GreenPower at a very competitive rate. This means we're reducing costs, supporting renewables, reducing emissions and contributing to a healthy future.

Anyone can switch to renewable energy by choosing to buy GreenPower, available through most electricity retailers.

Installing household solar panels is another means of generating renewable energy. The Hume Solar Rollout program makes it easy for residents to take advantage of rebates and interest-free loans and start saving with solar. To find out more, contact Hume’s Household Energy Officer on 03 9205 2751.
