Sunbury Cemetery

Sunbury Cemetery

Historic Sunbury Cemetery is a well maintained tranquil site, set in a secluded section of Sunbury. Sunbury Cemetery dates back to 1862 and is the final resting place for generations of families in the district, including Hugh Victor McKay, the inventor of the Sunshine Harvester.

A gentle blend of traditional and new grave sites

Historic Sunbury Cemetery is a well maintained tranquil site, set in a secluded section of Sunbury. It offers a gentle blend of traditional monumental graves with the new additions of well maintained and manicured lawn graves and a memorial wall with rose garden, providing an array of options when considering the final resting place for your loved ones.

The new look design was created by landscape architects and is part of a major investment in maintaining and developing the site as a cemetery of long-standing significance. An elegant avenue is bordered by a line of graceful old oak trees, combined with some recently planted young oaks. The avenue runs the length of the cemetery and links to the historic monumental grave site. Plots are still available in this section for those desiring a traditional burial.

Native and indigenous plants create a gentle visual break

The new lawn cemetery is set to the north of the cemetery, along with the new memorial wall and rose garden. Further stretches of land lie beyond and will be used to extend the lawn cemetery when necessary.

Along the border of the site, a selection of newly planted native and indigenous plants creates a gentle visual break from the residential homes behind, while new seating takes advantage of the views the cemetery offers.
