National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day has been held each year on 26 May since 1998, in commemoration of the 'Bringing Them Home' report. National Sorry Day was instituted to acknowledge the wrong that had been done to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander families and so that the healing process could begin.

On 26 May this year we commemorate and acknowledge all those who have been impacted by the government policies of forcible removal that have resulted in the Stolen Generations.

Hume City Council acknowledges the members and elders of the Gunung-Willam-Balluk community and their forebears. The Gunung-Willam-Balluk of the Wurundjeri are the Traditional Custodians of this land and we pay respect to the existing family members of the Gunung-Willam-Balluk and to Elders passed and present.
