Senior Citizens Centres operating in Hume:

  • Lynda Blundell Centre - 185 Blair Street, Dallas.
  • Gladstone Park Senior Citizens Centre - Carrick Drive, Gladstone Park.
  • Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre - 8 O'Shanassy Street, Sunbury.

There are more than 50 seniors clubs within Hume offering a range of social and recreational activities to residents over the age of 55. Many of the clubs cater for non-English speaking residents.

Senior Citizens Clubs activities include bingo, bowls, bocce, social outings, cards and dancing. Transport can be arranged for eligible persons. For further information about clubs in your area, contact our Aged and Disability Services Intake Officer on 9205 2839.

Seniors are encouraged to join the Hume Community Register

Victoria Police have established a Community Register for Hume residents in partnership with Dianella and Hume City Council. The Community Register aims to improve home safety and provide community support for senior residents and for residents who have a disability.

The Community Register is a phone call database that contains contact details of residents who are senior or have a disability and live alone. Details of the next of kin are also stored in the database. A dedicated volunteer will contact the registered resident on a regular basis to check on their safety, health and wellbeing. The register is based at the Broadmeadows Police Station and is coordinated by the police.

The first step is for residents to identify that they would like to be on the Community Register by contacting Leigh Harris at the Broadmeadows Police Station on 9302 8222. A volunteer will then call each resident to confirm they are part of the register and to answer any questions they may have.

Assisting older residents with Dementia

Hume City Council has a range of programs to assist residents with Dementia and their families. Planned Activity Groups cater for people with a diagnosis of Dementia in a social group setting and include enjoyable centre and community-based activities that foster personal growth and enhance quality of life
