Council provides several options for helping to recycle organic (green) waste:

  • An optional, user pays service, collected fortnightly on the alternate week to your recycling bin;
  • Or a compost bin or worm farm available at 70% off retail price.

Composting

You can recycle your organics at home with a compost bin or worm farm!
Council now subsidises compost bins and worm farms for residents.

To receive 70% off a compost bin or worm farm (and free delivery to your door) visit the Compost Revolution website.

You will need to complete a quick tutorial so you have all the information you need to look after your new system and then you'll be ready to start recycling organics at home. Good for the environment and your garden!

PLEASE NOTE: Worms cannot be transported safely during January as it is too hot for the worms. Final orders for worms to be delivered in 2016 will be 9 December. Any orders for worms placed after this date will not be dispatched until the end of January 2017.

If you'd like to pick up your worm farm or find out more about worm farming, Circular Food in Somerton offer free worm farming workshops to the community and also stock our worm farms.
To claim your discount through Circular Food, please take proof of Hume residency, such as drivers license or Rates Notice, in to Circular Food and receive 70% off the retail price on worm farms.

To find out more about picking up a worm farm, contact Circular Food on 9305 3324 or visit them at 105 Hume Highway, Somerton.

For any general composting questions or questions about online orders please contact Council's Waste and Litter Education Officer on 9205 2200.
