Water efficient products
In your home, the appliances and fixtures that use the most water will usually be the washing machine, dishwasher, shower and toilet. Find out what water efficient products are available to you to help you save water and money.

How you use appliances can make a big difference on your water use too.  Only use washing machines and dishwaters when you have a full load, take short showers (3-4 minutes) and flush the toilet only when necessary.

Showerhead Exchange Program

Bring your old inefficient showerhead to Council and swap it for a new, 3 star WELS rated efficient showerhead for free! Showers account for between 20 – 30% of household water use. An old showerhead uses up to 20L per minute whereas a 3 star WELS rated one uses 9 litres per minute or less. By swapping your showerhead you can save thousands of litres of water each year, as well as reducing your water and power bills.

Bring your old showerhead with a recent water bill to the following location:

  • Yarra Valley Water customers – Broadmeadows Customer Service Centre, 1079 Pascoe Vale Road, Broadmeadows

Please note – the 3 star water efficient showerheads are not suitable for use with some older instantaneous, low pressure and gravity-fed hot water systems.

For more information about the showerhead exchange programs, please contact your water retailer or Council’s Sustainable Environment Officer on 9205 2200.
