Drive Line - Andrew Chapman at Ford Broadmeadows
The presence of Ford Motors in Broadmeadows has significantly shaped the face of current day Hume.
The company’s arrival in 1959 led the way for other industries to the area in the years immediately following. This growth consequently encouraged a population influx and an ongoing diversification of industry henceforth.
In the late 1960’s Prominent Australian photographer Wolfgang Sievers was commissioned by Ford Motors to document production at the Broadmeadows assembly plant. In 2014 Hume City Council purchased a selection of these images for a special exhibition and inclusion into the Hume Civic Collection.
Andrew Chapman is a renowned Australian photojournalist whose work has covered many angles of Australian politics and working-life. In 2016, Hume has commissioned Andrew to undertake a photographic essay at Ford Motors Broadmeadows, to compliment the work of Sievers and to document production at Ford in the lead-up to the cessation of manufacturing at the plant.
