The Emerge program is Multicultural Arts Victoria’s ongoing response to consultations with emerging and refugee communities that show a strong desire to increase participation in the arts. By working alongside local artists and cultural groups, mentoring cultural leaders and facilitating arts activities, this program generates vibrant cultural development. Emerge in the North has been developed alongside artists and organisations who want to grow a strong, vibrant and inclusive cultural life for the outer north metropolitan region.

Emerge in the North provides opportunities for independent artists to present their work in a curated context, while networking, collaborating and building strong connections across the area through the arts. It began with a pilot program in winter 2017, with a free day-long festival and a range of smaller local events in the City of Whittlesea, and expanded in 2018 to include neighbouring municipalities including the City of Hume.

Emerge in the North is a place for artists and communities from Indigenous, refugee and emerging communities to have a voice.

Over Summer 2019-20, Gee Lee-Wik Doleen Gallery will host the work of a number of artists, selected by a panel of judges, from the third annual Emerge in the North Art Show, respecting and celebrating the extraordinary talent growing across this culturally diverse community.
