Night - Letisha Hirniak

 WatchingThePlanesLand 40.6cmx50.8cm_2017.jpg

Letisha Hirniak's paintings are nocturnal visions of a quiet suburbia. Although apparently abandoned, these dimly lit spaces are charged with a sense of their inhabitants.

Night speaks of a hinterland; places on the fringes of activity that are somehow familiar. Like a vague and distant memory from childhood that is tangible yet not reachable. The more you try to focus, the more the details will blur.

Letisha is a Greenvale-based artist who has recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Melbourne University.

Tricks of the Light: Drawing in the Dark

Hume artist Letisha Hirniak paints nocturnal scenes of suburbia. Her imagery explores the mystery of night time and an unsettling sense of the unknown. To coincide with her exhibition NIGHT, Hume community members are invited to attend a free drawing class led by Letisha. In the darkened gallery, participants will study objects lit by torches. Through use of harsh light and dramatic shadow, we will explore the expression of mood and subtle narrative in image-making and translate these observations into drawings.
