Strength of Silent Voices - Ava Tapestry Class

Tapestry_Exhibition.jpg

Strength of Silent Voices displays the early stages of learning the skill of woven tapestry. Guided by experienced weavers, the classes bring together women from different backgrounds who are rebuilding their lives in Australia. By exploring colour and shape they are learning to translate their memories and feelings into images.

Through tapestry they have found their voices and are empowered to tell their stories, weaving conversation together with friendship at the same time as they weave threads. As some have said; “… weaving is our silent voice of our painful time - in the past and present - and talks about our feelings and what we are thinking.”
