Artists play a vital role in contributing to innovation, local identity and wellbeing in our community.

 

Hume City Council's Arts Awards aim to showcase and support artists and help their professional development.

A total of $20,000 in prize money is available for this funding round.

The Awards recognise the achievement of Hume’s talented artists and support costs involved in their arts practice, including further study, training, materials and equipment professional memberships and travel.

Open to all disciplines, any artist who lives, or has a long-standing substantial practice, in Hume City can apply.

CATEGORIES:

The Awards program provides awards of up to $3,000 per applicant in either of the following 2 categories:

• Artist over 30 years in any artform

• Artist 19 - 30 years in any artform

The Awards program also provides awards of $500 for the following group:

• Youth 12-18 years in any artform

HOW TO APPLY

Nominations are now open and close on 30 April 2018.

Applications will be submitted online via a link on this webpage.

Applicants must provide:

  • samples of their work as support material 
  • a brief outline of how an Award would be used to advance their practice and career.
  • Artists 19 years and over must also provide a brief CV or description of their practice to date.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • Artists must be: a) a resident of Hume City and be able to provide proof of residency, or b) demonstrate substantial artistic practice in Hume over the last three years.
  • The Youth Arts Award is open to residents and/or students studying in Hume aged 12-18 years.
  • Applicants are required to provide examples of their work. All support material must be the original work of the entrant.
  • Age categories are determined by age of applicant as of 1 January 2018.
  • Applicants 19 years and older must provide a Curriculum Vitae outlining their practice to date.
  • Applicants are required to briefly outline how the funds from an award would be effectively used to advance their practice and career. This will influence the selection panel’s final decision.
  • Previous recipients of a Hume Arts Award cannot reapply.
  • Previous recipients of a Professional Development Grant can reapply for an Award.
  • Recipients may be required to participate in media interviews and agree to release contact details. Recipients may be invited to undertake public speaking engagements in order to promote the arts and the Award within Hume.
  • The selection panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Hume City Council will retain personal information only for the purposes of the Hume Arts Awards.
  • Hume City Council reserves the right to use material generated as a part of the Awards (including photographs, film footage, submission content) for the purpose of promoting the Arts Awards including publication online, in print media, in promotional materials and immediately related campaigns.
  • The copyright of any work created during receipt of an Award remains with the creator.
  • No submissions will be accepted after the closing date.
  • All recipients are required to attend the Hume Arts Awards 2018 presentation event.
