Crossing the Floor (This Hall Breathes) art exhibition

Council is excited to announce an art project with the Centre for Art, Society and Transformation, artist Robbie Rowlands, Singing Bowl Media and Kerstin Thompson Architects.

A feature of the $23.2 million redevelopment of Broadmeadows Town Hall is the development of a permanent public art piece for display in the refurbished building.

As part of this sculpture's concept development, artist Robbie Rowlands is presenting a temporary exhibition titled Crossing the Floor (This hall breathes) from 1 - 3 June. The exhibition will feature site-specific video and sound works developed through the research period and a delicately cut section of the floor that will reveal the preserved subsurface of the hall’s fifty year history. The materials salvaged from the floor cut will be used in the new sculpture.

On Thursday 1 June, a team from Singing Bowl Media will be on site at the exhibition to record community memories of the Town Hall. Through a relaxed interview process, people are invited to share their stories. This is part of a project recording community memories while the Hall undergoes transformation and will form part of a multimedia exhibition at the reopened Town Hall in 2019.

If you can’t attend the exhibition but would like to shape how the Town Hall is remembered, book in a storytelling session with Lee by ringing on 0426 288 453 or email him at
