Celebration to mark opening of Playspace

A community celebration has been planned to officially open the redevelopment of a local favourite – Jack Roper Reserve’s Playspace.

“Jack Roper Reserve is well known for its lakeside setting, picnic facilities and is a popular destination for local residents and large community and cultural group gatherings,” Hume City Council Mayor, Councillor Drew Jessop said.

“Through the development of the Jack Roper Reserve Master Plan, the community identified the need for a new inclusive play area that provided something for people of all ages, gender, cultural background and abilities to enjoy together.

“The new Playspace is a state of the art development that addresses these community needs and we welcome everyone to come along on Sunday 20 November to celebrate its opening.”

New additions to the medieval theme playspace include:
  • new timber castle climbing structure
  • in-ground trampolines
  • knight sculptures
  • tunnel and peekaboo wall
  • grass areas and seating.

The Playspace also offers multiple places for children to retreat if they need some space, which is particularly important for children with autism.

The Playspace will be officially opened by Cr Jessop and State Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire MP on Sunday 20 November at 11am. The official opening will be followed by free children’s activities and a free sausage sizzle from 12pm.
