We’re upgrading the Section Road/ Somerton Road intersection to make it safer for all drivers.

What we’re doing

We're installing traffic lights at the intersection of Section Road and Somerton Road. This project also includes new connections for a shared cycle and pedestrian path.

Why we’re doing it

This project is an important upgrade in improving road safety for our community. 

This intersection, and in particular Somerton Road, connects residents in our growing residential areas with health services, train stations, shopping centres, the Hume Highway and provides an important alternative route to Melbourne Airport (via Mickleham Road). 

By adding traffic lights, drivers will be able to turn right onto Somerton Road from Section Road which is currently prohibited.

The project is listed in the Greenvale Central Precinct Structure Plan and is funded by contributions levied on developers of Greenvale Central subdivisions. 

When it’ll be finished

Works are expected to be completed in 2026-27.
