Electrify Everything

ELECTRIFY-EVERYTHING-2023.png

We are encouraging residents to go all-electric at home to reap the benefits of cleaner, cheaper energy.

How to do it

We have created an action plan(PDF, 494KB) so residents can make the switch to electricity in a way that works for them. New home buyers can view our handy tips(PDF, 577KB) for more information and all residents can use the information below to plan for the future.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners

Heating and cooling appliances are the largest users of energy in a home. A reverse-cycle air conditioner the most cost-effective and energy-efficient ways to provide heating and cooling for your home in one system, for year-round comfort. If you already have a split system air-conditioner, start using it for heating instead of your existing gas or electric heating to save on bills and to help our environment. For more information visit the Victorian Energy website.

Electric Heat Pump Hot Water

Water heating is the next largest user of energy in the home. You can access up to a $1,000 rebate for installing a heat pump hot water system. You can apply for this rebate even if you’ve already claimed a solar PV rebate through Solar Homes program. For more information visit theSolar Victroia website.

Induction Cooktops

Gas cooktops can be replaced with modern electric induction cooktops – which are safer, faster and easier to clean. Induction cooktops generate heat directly in the pot or pan by using magnets they require cookware e.g. stainless steel or cast iron. If a magnet sticks to your cookware, it is compatible. Try a portable induction cooktop to trial the technology before committing to upgrading. For more information visit Renew.

Electric Cars or Bicycles

Electric cars are quiet, non-polluting, cheap to run and need very little maintenance. Can be charged on clean renewable energy. Electric and cargo bikes are a great alternative to using a car. For more information visit the Electric Vehicle Council.

Solar Panels and GreenPower

Solar panels reduce electricity bills and help our environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Anyone can support more renewable energy in Australia by choosing GreenPower. Council’s Solar Roll-out program makes it easier for Hume households to install solar and access generous rebates. Hume City Council offers an additional $700 rebate to concession card holders who install solar through the Hume program. With other rebates and the no interest loan this can reduce the upfront costs of solar by $3,500. For more information visit the Hume Solar Program.
