Yirrangan Road is an important future road connection for Sunbury.
We’re constructing Yirrangan Road, which will connect residents in the existing Jacksons Hill area and future Sunbury South residential area with the Sunbury Town Centre and Calder Freeway.
The future road will be located between Yirrangan Road in Jacksons Hill and Watsons Road in Sunbury South.
Field work discovered the proposed site was home to a significant quantity of Aboriginal artifacts. Therefore, work has not yet been able to commence.
In line with heritage protection legislation and Council’s own commitment to respect and maintain the culture of the site’s Traditional Owners, we’re working with the Wurundjeri to determine the extent of archaeological work that will be required.
We’re constructing the road to improve connections through Sunbury and to cater for the increase in demand expected with the suburb’s future growth.
We’re currently working with the Wurundjeri and cultural heritage experts to understand the extent of salvage that will be required; this will determine how long archaeological salvage and relocation works will take, our design, and when we can confirm commencement of construction works.
