Hume City Council welcomes newly-elected Federal Government

Hume City Council congratulates Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on winning the 2022 Federal Election, and looks forward to working with the new government, whether they form a minority or majority, to build a better Hume.

Council also congratulates Maria Vamvakinou MP, who has been re-elected as the Member for Calwell, Bill Shorten MP, who has been re-elected as the Member for Maribyrnong and Sam Rae, the member for the new seat of Hawke.

Hume City Council is one of Australia's fastest growing and most diverse communities. With a population of 257,000 that is set to expand to almost 400,000 in the next 20 years, the region needs policies and projects that will support a growing community.

Council looks forward to working with the Albanese Federal Government to support their delivery of election commitments, including:

  • An urgent care clinic in Sunbury that will reduce wait times at GPs while relieving pressure on emergency departments
  • $250,000 towards the upgrade of Ligar Street between Gap Road and Cornish Street in Sunbury.
  • $315,000 towards the upgrade of a pavilion at Greenvale Tennis Club
  • $75,000 towards the development of outreach library services at the Kalkallo Community Centre

Mayor of Hume City Councillor Carly Moore said:

“Hume City Council requires a plan for proactive growth. As one of Australia's fastest growing and most diverse communities, our vital infrastructure and services need to grow proportionately with the needs of our community.
“We welcome the Albanese Federal Government and look forward to working together towards a better future for Hume City.
“While May 21 will signal the end of the Federal Election campaign period, Council’s advocacy will only continue to strengthen, particularly as we head into the Victorian State Election.”
