Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 27 April 2026.
1. Aged and Disability Services - Governance Policy Adoption and External Clinical Assurance Function
Council adopted two new governance policies for Aged and Disability Services; a Whistleblower Policy and a Reporting Requirements Policy. An external Clinical Assurance function will be established to meet Council’s obligations under the Aged Care Act 2024.
The decision strengthens oversight, accountability and safe reporting arrangements, ensuring Council remains compliant as a registered aged care provider and supports high-quality, safe service delivery.
2. 2026 Round Two and 2027 Annual Community Grants Program
Council endorsed the allocation of funds to successful Community Grants Program Round 2 applicants. Guidelines for the 2027 Community Grants Program were also endorsed; the prgroam will open for applications on 18 May 2026 and close 26 June 2026.
The Community Grants Program supports the creation of a community that is resilient, inclusive and thriving.
3. Yirrangan Road to Watsons Road Connection
Council has decided to defer the delivery of the Yirrangan Road to Watsons Road connection in Sunbury due to the fact development occurring within that part of the Sunbury South PSP has slowed significantly.
Opportunities to utilise this funding for alternative projects that benefit the Sunbury community will be explored. Funding on this project will be reassessed when development progresses.
4. Parking Bays Kyabram Street, Coolaroo
Following a Notice of Motion at the 14 April 2025 Council Meeting, Council officers investigated the potential construction of parking bays in the central median of Kyabram Street, Coolaroo.
Investigations found there were no significant shortages on Kyabram Street during worship times, with parking available within a short walking distance. Providing additional median parking would also require tree removal and high, unbudgeted costs for limited benefit.
Councilllors voted six to four in favour of not pursuing the project.
5. Congratulations Notices
There were seven notices of congratulations including to the organisers of ANZAC Day events across Hume City, Ros Spence MP for her new ministerial portfolios, the organisers of the Sri Lankan New Year Festival Soorya Udana, Hume City FC Senior Women for their return to play and win at John Ilhan Reserve, the Upfield Soccer Club for their win against Yarraville Glory, and thanks to retiring Hume employee Jean Trusler.
