Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
Hume City is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Peoples, including the Gunung Willam-Balluk clan, who have cared for Country for thousands of years. Their deep connection to the land, waterways, plants and animals continues today. For thousands of generations, they have maintained cultural practices, and passed on knowledge, stories, and traditions that continue to shape the landscape and community today.
Today, Hume is proudly home to one of the fastest growing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Melbourne, with First Nations people from all across Australia calling Hume home with significant communities in Craigieburn, Sunbury and Roxburgh Park.
Hume is also home to many significant Aboriginal cultural heritage places, including artefact scatters, scar trees, burial sites, campsites and stone features. These places hold important cultural knowledge and stories that connect past, present and future generations.
Significant cultural landscapes include Merri Creek, Jacksons Creek, Woodlands Historic Park, Organ Pipes National Park, Mt Ridley Conservation Reserve, and the region's waterways and stony rises.
