Bin Feedback Program

To reduce contamination, minimise waste sent to landfill, and improve safety by keeping hazardous materials out of recycling, we are implementing a bin feedback program. This program will help educate the community on the best way to dispose of waste and support a healthier environment.

How it works

When your waste is collected, our team will do a quick visual check of your yellow‑lid recycling bins and light green‑lid FOGO bins to make sure no incorrect items (contamination) have been placed inside.

Will someone go through my rubbish?

No, the team won’t touch or sort through the contents, it’s only a quick visual check.

What does the tag on my bin mean?

After the inspection, your bin will receive a tag showing whether it has been used correctly or if some items should go in a different bin next time. This program helps residents understand what belongs in each bin and supports Council’s efforts to reduce waste going to landfill.

There are two types of tags tht may be placed on bins.

If you receive a tag showing correct use, thank you for sorting your items properly.

If you receive a tag highlighting incorrect items in your bins, find out more on what should go in your recycling and FOGO bins.

You may also receive a postcard in your letterbox with more detailed information. Once you’re finished with the tag, it can be placed in your yellow-lid recycling bin.

How often will my bin be checked?

Bins will be checked once, a reinspection may occur bins with high contamination.

Will I get a fine for contamination?

No, you will not receive a fine. There are no fines associated with this program.

Is my personal information recorded?

No, personal details are recorded. A photo might be taken for data accuracy.
