We'll be renewing the Vaughan Street Bridge and The Nook Bridge in Sunbury to improve safety, accessibility and long-term reliability.
The existing bridges will be replaced with new structures that meet current accessibility, engineering and safety standards. The renewed Vaughan Street Bridge will also be designed to support access for CFA vehicles, responding to operational requirements from the local CFA.
The existing bridges have reached the stage where renewal is needed to ensure they remain safe, accessible and reliable for the community.
The project will deliver two new 3.5-metre-wide bridges and an improved all-weather shared path connection. The renewed bridges are expected to provide a long-lasting asset for the community, with a design life of around 50 years or more.
Construction is expected to begin in October 2026 and be completed by March 2027.
To enable these works, the shared path connecting Vaughan Street and The Nook, as well as both bridges, will be closed during construction.
While the usual route will be unavailable, pedestrian access to surrounding open space areas will remain available via alternative walking routes. These detours will result in longer travel times for some users.
Vehicle access across both bridges will not be permitted during the construction period. We'll provide more information about impacts once the construction timeline has been confirmed.
