LGBTQIA+ Community Working Group

The LGBTQIA+ Community Working Group supports Hume City Council to progress actions that strengthen inclusion, visibility and quality of life for local LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Working Group is guided by Council’s LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Framework and underpinned by the following principles:

  • We recognise Intersectionality to Strengthen Inclusion
  • We create Visibly Welcoming Communities
  • We Strengthen Solutions Through Co-Design and Collaboration
  • We uphold LGBTQIA+ people’s Right to a High Quality of Life.

Who can apply

You are encouraged to apply if you:

  • Identify as LGBTQIA+
  • Prove a connection to Hume as a resident, worker, student or community member
  • Want to contribute lived experience, perspectives or ideas
  • Have the time to actively contribute to the group and commit to attending the scheduled meetings.

How to apply

To apply:

  1. Complete the online Expression of Interest application form
  2. Submit your application by 5pm Thursday 4 June 2026

Applications will be reviewed by an independent panel. Places are limited.

Background

The initial LGBTQIA+ Community Working Group was formed in February 2025 following a community petition (PJL307) endorsed by Council on 26 February 2024.

In April 2026, after presenting the LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Framework, Council endorsed the continuation of the Working Group.
