What we're doing

We're upgrading the sportsground to create a safer and more reliable playing surface for the community.

Works will improve drainage, irrigation and turf quality to support year-round use. The works will include:

  • installation of subsurface drainage to reduce wet areas
  • upgraded irrigation system for better water coverage
  • new turf to enhance surface quality and durability
  • surface levelling to create a safer, more consistent field.

Why we're doing it

The reserve has previously had drainage problems after rain, which has affected access and use of the sportsground.

These improvements will create better playing conditions, help the turf stay healthy and keep the ground playable for more of the year.

Latest project update

Construction works are currently underway.

Current works include:

  • Turf works across the sportsground.
  • Completion of drainage and irrigation upgrades.
  • Final preparation of the playing surface.

Upcoming milestones:

  • Completion of remaining turf works during September (weather permitting).
  • Final project completion expected in mid-November (weather permitting).

What to expect

The reserve will remain closed while works are underway.

Construction works are currently underway and expected to be completed in September. Turf establishment will continue through to mid-November.

The temporary fencing will remain in place during this period and will be removed once the turf has established sufficiently, allowing community and cricket access from mid-November (weather permitting).

Cricket access is anticipated from mid-November following completion of the turf establishment period.

We will continue to provide updates as key milestones are reached.

Timing

The project has taken longer than originally anticipated due to unexpected ground conditions, irrigation redesign requirements, additional works around the pavilion and wet weather impacts.

Thank you for your patience while we complete these important upgrades. We look forward to reopening the sportsground for community use and welcoming cricket back to the venue following the completion of works, which are currently anticipated to be finalised by mid-November 2026, subject to weather conditions
