Hume Multiversity partners with leading training institutions and industry bodies to help residents develop the skills needed for the jobs of the future.

In response to COVID-19 many of our partners have moved existing programs or are offering new programs online. 

Deakin University

Free online courses with Deakin University  

Deakin University has 40 years of experience in distance and online learning. Study a free online course at Deakin to connect with a community of 60,000 online learners ready to secure their future with you in topics such as Leading Strategic Innovation, Transforming Digital Learning and Professional Resilience.

New Business Assistance with NEIS 

Have you got a new business idea that you need help to get off the ground? The Australian Government’s New Business Assistance with NEIS could be your ticket to success. With small business management training, financial support and mentorship, this program is the perfect way to bring your ideas to life.

Explore Being My Own Boss Workshop

Now is a great time to plan and think through a business idea you wish to create. 10 days, online, this is a thorough way to explore your dreams! No obligation to commence a business after the workshop - but you will emerge well informed for future planning.

Kangan Institute

Kangan Institute – Free Tafe

The Victorian State Government is providing Free TAFE for priority Courses for students who are eligible for government-subsidised training. More than ever, the skills we need to build our state are learned at TAFE and Free TAFE courses will give more Victorians the chance to study. This initiative will reduce financial barriers for students wanting to train in courses that lead to jobs in-demand by Victorian employers. Free TAFE for priority Courses cover tuition fees for students who are eligible for government-subsidised training.

A one-stop-shop for anyone seeking to explore tertiary studies, training, job and career options. Trained staff can provide you with one-on-one ongoing support to guide you through the job search and training process.

Melbourne Polytechnic

Melbourne Polytechnic Free TAFE

More Victorians will have the chance to study at TAFE, with Free TAFE thanks to funding from the Victorian Government.

More than ever, the skills we need to build our state are learned at TAFE. Free TAFE will reduce financial barriers for students wanting to train in courses that lead to jobs in demand by Victorian employers. 

We are currently working to transition our Free TAFE courses to remote learning as well as introducing new courses to support the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria Program. 

AMEP Volunteer Tutor Scheme 

The Volunteer Tutor Scheme (VTS) is an important service within the AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program). Volunteers commit to 1-2 hours a week supporting a newly arrived refugee or migrant practise English and learn about life in Australia. VTS training is now available 100% online and is a great way to give back to the community and build your skills and confidence.

2020 illuminate:nextgen Challenge 

Illuminate Education Australia, in partnership with Hume City Council are excited to announce that our nationally renowned entrepreneurship and problem-solving education program is returning for 2020 – and will be hosted for students of Hume during 9 November – 13 November 2020.

The challenge is designed for students in Years 9, 10 & 11 (but entries are open to all high school students) and through the generous support from Hume City Council and other partners there is no cost for your students to register for the program!

Caravan Industry Victoria

Caravan Industry Victoria (CIV) was formed in 1952 to foster the growth of caravanning holidays in Victoria. The Association quickly became an integral body for like-minded entrepreneurs who were manufacturing caravans, recreational vehicles, RV accessories and technology in Victoria. Today, 90 per cent of all caravan manufacturing in Australia takes place in Victoria with most manufacturers based in the city of Hume.


Victoria University

Hume Education and Community Program

On 1 July 2020 Victoria University (VU) and Hume City Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that aims to increase learning opportunities and the skills for employment of Hume residents.



Coursera for Workforce Recovery

Hume Multiversity is pleased to announce free access to the Coursera platform for a limited time under the Coursera for Workforce Recovery program. Through this program Hume residents impacted by COVID-19 will have the opportunity to access more than 3,000 cutting edge courses, taught by top instructors from 190 of the world’s leading universities and organizations.

Please ensure you enrol in any Courses that interest you by the cut-off date of 30 October 2020. For any courses you enrol in by this date you will have until 31 December 2020 to complete the course.

What Can You Learn on Coursera?

With over 3000 courses available you can take a course on just about any topic on coursera. Coursera courses are non-accredited, however they are designed with a focus on knowledge and skill development to help you gain up to date skills currently in demand.

Some examples of Courses available include:

  • Mitigating Security Vulnerabilities on Google Cloud
  • Career Design: From insight to impact, Wesleyan University
  • Introduction to Social Media Marketing, Facebook

Who is eligible?

Hume residents that are unemployed or have had their employment impacted by COVID-19. 


How long is the access period?

Registration and enrolments close on 30 September 2020.  Access to any courses you have enrolled in by this date will be available until 31 December 2020. 


Are places limited?

Yes, Hume City Council has a limited number of licences to the Coursera platform as a part of Coursera for Workforce Recovery.

If you do not complete your registration and enrol in a learning program Council may cancel your licence and allocate it to another resident.  


I am a student, can I participate?

Students are not eligible for the Hume City Council - Coursera for Workforce Recovery program. However, you may be able to access Coursera through your student email address via Coursera for Campus.
