Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 13 November 2023.

1. Emu Bottom Wetlands Draft Masterplan Report

Earlier this year, we undertook community and stakeholder engagement to help develop a draft Master Plan for Emu Bottom Wetlands in Sunbury.

As a result of the feedback received, we’ve developed the draft document which highlights important improvements to the area.

Community and stakeholder feedback has ensured that we can keep our conservation area protected for generations to come. Learn more about what’s been included in the draft Master Plan

2. 2024 Hume Arts Grants Program

The Hume Arts Grants program assists local artists and other creatives to create more visible and accessible arts and cultural practices within Hume, to build community wellbeing and connection.

Our talented locals are encouraged to apply for the 2024 Arts Grants Program which has been allocated $72,850 for the delivery of the 2024 program.

Applications will be open from Monday 5 February 2024 until Monday 11 March 2024, with successful applicants announced in May next year.

3. Land and Biodiversity Plan 2023-2030 - Final adoption

We’re excited to announce that we’ve adopted the Land and Biodiversity Plan 2023-2030 which sets Council’s strategic direction for sustainable land management, the protection and enhancement of biodiversity and the protection of cultural heritage within Hume.

We undertook significant work to engage the community and stakeholders in the development of the Plan, as well as the accompanying Action Plan 2024-2025.

4. Hume Central Vision

We’ve been working on a project known as the ‘Hume Central Vision’ to transform the land around the Broadmeadows Town Hall, Global Learning Centre and Council Offices into a vibrant and active town centre for people to visit, work, learn and connect.

There are a number of key moves that we’re working on, including a town square, refurbishment of the Broadmeadows Hume Global Learning Centre ground floor area and more. Find out more and stay up to date on the progress of Hume Central.

More details, including official minutes, notices of motion and audio recordings will be published later this week.
