Welcome to a quick wrap up of five key decisions that were made by Council on Monday 28 February 2023.

1. Future of Aged Care Service Delivery

Council will continue delivering the Commonwealth-supported services for our older residents. This includes services like Home Care packages, delivered meals and more. We will continue to evolve and improve these services to help older people to feel safe and comfortable at home and in the community.

2. Waste Service Charge Update

Council voted against the proposed method for a waste service charge. This matter will be deferred to a later meeting date.

3. Annual Gambling Report

Council notes the contents of the Annual Gambling Report, which states $140 million was lost on pokie machines in 2021/22 in Hume City. That’s almost $390,000 per day. Council will continue to advocate for gambling reform in Hume.

4. Naming of public places

Council will consult with the community to name a new reserve ‘Pearl Iris Park’. The reserve is located at 38 Bushranger Drive Sunbury, in the Rosenthal Estate.

Council will also install a sign on the wall of Court 1 at Boardman Stadium in Sunbury to recognise Leslie Thomas, a founding member and current vice president of the Sunbury Basketball Association.

5. Funding Commitment for Hume Indoor Cricket Centre

Council has reaffirmed its commitment to local sport, pledging an additional $4 million in funding to the Hume Indoor Cricket Centre in Greenvale. Funding will come from Council’s capital works program.

More details, including official minutes, notices of motion and audio recordings will be published later this week.
