Book a hard waste collection

Book online

1. You can book online at anytime. Alternatively you can call 9205 2200 and press option 3 to book your collection (Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm). 
   
   
2. Check the ‘What items we collect’ list below so you can ensure items placed out can be collected safely. See alternative waste disposal options if your items are unable to be collected through this service.
   
   
3. Place hard waste items inside your front yard by 6am on the Monday morning of the week your collection is booked.
   • Ensure items are placed no more than 2 metres from the boundary or fence.
   • Ensure items are neatly piled and easily accessible by the collection crew. If you have a fence along your property boundary you will need to ensure the driveway access is clear of obstruction, this includes closed gates or parked cars.

 
Please note: your collection will take place between Monday – Friday during the week of your booking.

Between 1 October 2020 and 30 September 2021 all residential ratepayers and those renting homes within Hume are eligible for:

Hard waste booking service entitlements

• A maximum of ONE 6 cubic meter collection OR
• TWO 3 cubic metre home hard rubbish collection at different times.

Am I eligible for hard rubbish?

• Mattresses and bed bases
• Household furniture and toys
• Whitegoods (doors removed), air conditioners and hot water units
• Car and 4WD tyres - rims must be separated from the tyre
• Computers, televisions and electrical equipment
• Scrap metal, tools and equipment including body parts, lawn mowers, roof iron and guttering
• Carpet (rolled and tied, cut in to bundles no more than 1.5m in length and 30kg each)
• Pottery, ceramics and chinaware
• Sheet glass which is securely wrapped and clearly marked as 'glass'
• Tools and equipment, car parts, each item less than 30kg weight or 1.5m long
• Open/unlidded, clean, rinsed, empty metal tanks, drums and paint tins
• Trash and treasure items
• Fences and scrap fencing (bundled) – nails must be removed or hammered down and bundles must be suitable for one person to lift above shoulder height
• Wood/timber (bundled) – no more than 1.5m in length and 1m in width (no tree branches).

• Items or bundles weighing more than 30kg each (excluding household appliances)
• Items or bundles 1.5m or longer
• Building materials (including bricks, concrete, excavation material, plaster, dirt or stones)
• Commercial or industrial trade wastes
• Household garbage
• Household recyclable goods
• Hazardous and/or offensive wastes (including asbestos)
• Car engines
• Truck and tractor tyres
• Unwrapped panes of broken glass
• Garden waste
• Timber pallets
• Clothes and shoes
• Water tanks.

We can pick up 3 cubic meters of hard waste from your home each collection, or you can combine your two free collections into one larger 6 cubic meter collection for the year.

• 3 cubic meters is 3m x 1m x 1m (in feet this equates to 10ft x 3ft x 3ft)

• 6cubic meters is 6m x 1m x 1m (in feet this equates to 20ft x 3ft x 3ft)

We can only collect neatly presented items, so please ensure your items are placed neatly next to each and are not laid on top of each other.

Landfill

If you can't wait for a hard waste collection you can take your hard waste to the landfill (tip) for free and use your free landfill pass. Find out more on our landfills page.

Donation and recycling

One person's trash can be another person's treasure. You can avoid placing reusable items in your general hard waste by participating in one of the following options:

• Donate your items to your local charity store or arrange for the charity to collect your items.
• Promote your unwanted items on social networking sites such as BuySwapSell or on your Facebook page and make some money!
• Post a notice up at your work or on community notice board advertising your item(s).
• Sell your item(s) online on sites such as eBay and Gumtree or advertise in the local paper.
• Post your items on a reuse website such as Freecycle.
• Hold a garage sale and enjoy the social perks of meeting locals.

Enable Australia offers a free drop off service for e-waste at their Broadmeadows Recycling Centre, Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm. The following items can be dropped off free of charge:

• Computers
• Laptops
• LCD monitors
• Printers
• Keyboards, mice and cables
• Server and networking equipment
• Phones

• Fridges and freezers
• Washing machines
• Dryers
