Welcome to a quick wrap up of key decisions that were made by Council on Tuesday 11 April 2023. 

1. Kindergarten Infrastructure Building Blocks Pipeline 

Council will write to the Hon Ingrid Stitt MP, and State Local members to advocate for a greater balance of funding to be made available to Local Government for the future and sustained role out of the Best Start, Best Life kindergarten reform. Currently there is a funding shortfall of $6,621,204 for the delivery of this critical infrastructure. 

2. 2024 Community Grants Program 

Council is pleased to announce that Round 1 of the Annual Community Grant program will be open from 15 May and closes 30 June 2023. An additional $73,000 of funds will be reallocated towards the Operational, Participation and Project categories. 

3. Naming Proposal: Joe Sullivan Reserve 

Council approves the commencement of community consultation to seek the views of the community on a proposal to officially name the reserve located at 39 Flagstaff Loop, Craigieburn, the Joe Sullivan Reserve. 

4. Hume Central The Vision – towards the next steps 

Council endorsed exploration of a new hotel for the proposed Hume Central precinct located on the corner of Tanderrum Way and Pearcedale Parade, Broadmeadows. The proposed space could include accommodation, meeting rooms, and a restaurant. Council will commence a non-binding Expression of Interest to determine market interest.   

5. Waste Charge Methodology 

Council will implement a Public Waste service charge and service rate commencing 1 July 2023 that includes a Flat-Fee public waste service charge for residential properties and a capital improved value (CIV) based public waste service rate for non-residential properties. Further details will be communicated to residents via mail and our website.
