Community collaboration enhances safety in Hume
Published on 06 June 2025
Hume City Council is actively collaborating with residents to address and mitigate antisocial behavior in our neighborhoods.
On Tuesday, 27 May, a Neighbourhood Safety Forum was held at Willowbrook Reserve, organised by Cambridge Garden Estate residents, Rachel Amore and Leonie Conforto. The forum provided a platform for residents to voice their concerns and discuss safety measures with Council representatives.
Tullamarine Ward Councillor Naim Kurt, alongside members of the City Safety team, attended the forum, engaging in meaningful discussions with community members. Key topics included local reserve upgrades, the upcoming budget and parking, Council’s use of CCTV and policy, what’s being done to reduce local crime, provisions in the recent Council budget to address illegal dumping and the possibility of future Council crime safety forums.
One significant outcome from the forum is Council's agreement to collaborate with the community on installing signage aimed at deterring criminal activities. Furthermore, there are plans to engage with Victoria Police to address concerns raised and explore the possibility of increasing patrols in the area.
Council is committed to fostering community safety and will be organising additional Community Safety Forums later this year. Residents are encouraged to participate and share their insights.

In support of these initiatives, Council is also collaborating with Victoria Police for a Neighbourhood Policing Forum scheduled at the Sunbury Global Learning Centre on 3 July, from 6pm to 9pm. This event offers residents an opportunity to discuss safety concerns directly with local area sergeants and commanders.
