What you can do

Taking care of our public spaces is everyone’s responsibility.

Here are some easy ways you can do your part.

Put litter in the bin, or take it home

We’re all responsible for our own rubbish. When you’re out and about, put your litter in a public bin or take it home with you.

Close your bin lids

Litter can be blown out of your household bins by the wind or pulled out by birds and other animals. Always keep your bin lids closed and tidy up after bin day.

Keep your nature strip clear

Leaving unwanted items or rubbish outside your home is a form of illegal dumping. Make sure you book a hard waste or bundled branches collection first, and follow the instructions provided.

Bin your cigarette butts

There are bins for your cigarette butts throughout Hume’s public spaces. Alternatively, carry a container with you and dispose of them at home.

Clean up after your dog

Going for walkies? Always carry a waste bag so you can deal with any droppings. You can put it in a public bin or take it home for disposal.

Return your shopping trolley

Abandoned shopping trolleys are a safety hazard and attract litter and dumped rubbish. Always take your shopping trolley back to the right place when you’ve finished with it.

Report graffiti

If you find graffiti, send us a report online or through Snap Send Solve so we can clean it up. Make sure to provide as many specific details as you can so we can find the exact location.

We’ll be adding other tips throughout the campaign, so check back here later for more ideas!
