Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 11 May 2026.
1. Proposed Budget 2026/27
Council endorsed the Proposed Budget for the 2026/27 Financial Year.
The Budget:
presents Council's financial strategy
honours commitments set out in the Council Plan
identifies the capital works and services the community can expect from Council during the 2026/27 financial year
ensures ongoing security of Council’s financial position. It provides a balanced capital works program, based on equity, which has been funded through a recurrent surplus and government grants.
Residents can share their feedback on the budget at our participate page.
2. Hume Young Leaders Awards
Council endorsed the 2026 Hume Young Leaders Award Program, which is now open for nominations.
Young Hume residents can be nominated for their leadership in 10 categories, which will be awarded at a ceremony on 18 September.
The program aligns with Council’s commitment to contributing to positive health, social and economic outcomes for young people aged 6 to 24 years in Hume. Nominations can be submitted here.
3. Artificial Intelligence Policy - Adoption
Council will adopt an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy to provide an ethical, transparent and accountable framework for the use of AI tools across Hume City Council.
The policy will allow for the benefits of AI to be realised in a controlled, ethical and transparent manner while protecting community trust, human rights and data protection.
4. Review of the Hume Charitable Fund
Following a request in December 2025 by Cr Naim Kurt to review the Hume Charitable Fund, it was agreed that changes will be made to the way the fund operates.
