Refugee Week

Refugee Week raises awareness of the challenges faced by refugees and celebrates the valuable contributions they make to our communities. Held annually during the week that includes World Refugee Day on 20 June, it promotes understanding, inclusion, and belonging.

On Saturday 20 June 2026, Hume City Council hosted the Refugee Week Celebration at Broadmeadows Town Hall. Guided by the theme “A Million Stories: Journey to Hope,” the event brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate culture, resilience, and community.

Organised by a Working Group that included community members from refugee backgrounds, the celebration reflected the voices, experiences, and aspirations of Hume's diverse communities. The event highlighted the power of storytelling, connection, and belonging, while recognising the important contributions of people from refugee backgrounds to our community.
