The Spirit of a Place showcases the places that make Hume’s historical and environmental landmarks distinctive, such as the Organ Pipes, or Woodlands Historic Park. Among these places are those that the artist has cherished over years, and others that he will discover by painting them for this exhibition.
Ariel paints mostly landscapes. As a previous environmental and sustainability worker, painting outdoors is a great way for him to enjoy his two great passions.
In recent years Ariel has organised outdoor painting sessions with a group of sketchers. What started as a way to reconnect again after the pandemic has become a weekly event that includes people from all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. While art practice is normally presented as a solitary practice, Ariel emphasises the encouragement gained by sketching with a group.
Hume residents will have the opportunity to join these painting sessions throughout the exhibition period, to paint, draw, or just to observe the process of painting.
