Nature Stewards Program
The Nature Stewards program consists of a 10-week environmental education course designed and delivered by Victorian National Parks Association in partnership with Hume City Council, Merri-bek City Council, and Moonee Valley City Council. This forms the North West Hub and showcases nature across the municipalities.
The vision of the Nature Stewards program is a, ‘A vibrant community throughout Victoria of well-informed and trained citizens, actively engaged in conserving, observing and interpreting nature.’
This hands-on program aims to build and promote knowledge, capacity and connection to environmental issues. Participants are guided through local examples of natural significance, environmental management and concern, by expert trainers in their field.
The Nature Stewards program provides an excellent foundation of local natural environmental knowledge and skills for people wanting to build their connection to nature, change career paths or volunteer for the environment.
Program content includes environmental education sessions on:
- soils
- local ecosystems
- flora and fauna
- past and present management
- climate
