Home Gardening Series
When you start a home garden, you’re planting the beginnings of a healthier, more enjoyable, and economical lifestyle. Every tomato you grow, every handful of basil you snip, and every lettuce you harvest is one less item on your grocery bill.
Being a home gardener means you get to enjoy fresh air and exercise while watching your efforts turn into healthy, tasty produce. Plus, home gardening invites you to create a space that’s both practical and joyful—a place where you can improve your health, have a little fun, and keep more money in your pocket, all while watching something beautiful grow under your care.
To help you in the garden, we’ve created a range of workshops, factsheets, and videos designed to share our knowledge and help you grow with confidence whether you’re just getting started or looking to expand your skills.
Workshops
Hume’s Home Gardening Series includes free hands‑on workshops that show you how to grow your own edibles—whether you’ve got a backyard, a balcony or a few pots.
Held throughout the year, they’re a great way to pick up practical skills and get inspired. You’ll also find sessions on Indigenous food and ecological practices, plus in‑language gardening workshops for active ageing groups.
Each workshop runs for about an hour, is open to everyone in the community, and takes place at locations across Hume.
