The Hume Empowering Communities Action Group is pleased to announce the successful projects for Round 2, Stream 1 (Youth Participation and Empowerment Stream) of the Hume Empowering Communities initiative funded by the Victorian Government’s Empowering Communities initiative as part of the Building Safer Communities Program.

The Hume Empowering Communities Assessment Panel received a number of high-quality project proposals for the delivery of Round 2, Stream 1 projects from Hume-based community organisations.

Total funding of $200,000 will be administered across three Hume-based projects led by Banksia Gardens Community Services, Upfield Soccer Club and Waves of Wellness Foundation. These projects will commence from February 2023 and will be delivered through to 30 June 2024.

These projects focus on providing children and young people aged 8 – 24 years with opportunities to strengthen their engagement in education and/or employment, live in a safe and connected community, and have nurturing relationships with family or caregivers.

As part of the Hume Empowering Communities initiative, multiple capacity-building workshops including grant writing, governance, evidence-based project planning, and monitoring and evaluation were delivered in 2022 to empower and build the capacity of local community organisations to apply for funding.

Hume Empowering Communities Round 2, Stream 2 (Youth-led Stream), will be announced soon. This stream will provide funding for young people to drive, plan and deliver projects in Hume for other young people. This stream will have funding of $43,000 and will open in May 2023. Young people auspiced by incorporated organisations from the Hume community are encouraged to apply.
