Hume Arts Awards 2020 recipient Andrew Nicolaides presents a bright, bold and expressive series of abstract paintings, each accompanied by poetic lyrics to songs he has written. These works demonstrate a dual process of song-writing and painting which he developed during his time in lockdown.
“Spending time in my room and just lying on my bed, this process has been all about becoming my environment and through that being immersed in visions of colour, form and poetry. First, the song floats into my mind and then flows out of me through images. I have documented these images and poetic lyrics in an art journal and then recreated them onto canvas”. Andrew performs regularly in Sunbury-based BoilOver Performance Ensemble and Hip-hop dance group Inkrewsive. He has exhibited his work through ArtsProject in the past.
