What is the Informal Sports Project?

CMSport, in partnership with VicHealth, Cardinia Shire, Hume City and Melbourne, is excited to launch the Activating Informal Sports in Victoria pilot project.

The project aims to better understand how people use local parks and sporting spaces for informal sport and recreation, and how these spaces can become more welcoming, accessible and active for everyone — especially multicultural young people.

During the project, community sporting spaces across the three municipalities will be opened for free public access outside of organised club activities, giving more people the opportunity to play, connect and be active.

Where is this happening in Hume?

The project will be happening at Kalkallo Recreation Reserve, 45 Toyon Road Kalkallo, over two pilot programs between August 2026 and March 2027.

Pilot 1
  • Location: Kalkallo Recreation Reserve - Oval 1
  • Days & Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00–9:00pm (oval lights will be turned on)
  • Duration: 25 August - 29 September 2026
Pilot 2
  • Location: Kalkallo Recreation Reserve - Oval 2
  • Days & Times: Tuesdays from 5:00–9:00pm (natural light)
  • Duration: 6 October 2026 - 30 March 2027

How does the program work?

Whether you want to kick a football, shoot some hoops, throw a frisbee, play cricket, practise your skills, enjoy a casual game with friends or simply spend time outdoors with your family, these spaces are yours to enjoy. There’s no registrations, no memberships, no competitions, no pressure.
