Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 25 May 2026.
1. Rates Financial Hardship Policy
Council has adopted an updated Rates Financial Hardship Policy. The updated policy makes it easier to apply for support and helps ratepayers avoid penalty interest on overdue rates by entering into a payment plan. Ratepayers experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact Council for support.
Councillors will seek feedback on the updated policy from the community over the next 12 months, to be reviewed again in June 2027.
Once finalised, the updated policy will be promoted via Council’s social media platforms and on Council’s Rates notice to improve awareness of support options and application processes.
2. Proposed Car Share Pilot Program
Council has agreed to a twelve-month car share pilot program by providing three car parking spaces across Craigieburn and Roxburgh Park. The service will be operated by Go Get; Council’s role will be to maintain standard parking enforcement.
A report will be brought to council following the trial with no obligation to continue.
3. Proposed Renaming of Community Facilities in Meadow Heights
Council has approved the renaming of the ‘Visy Cares Learning Centre’, located at 3–13 Hudson Circuit, Meadow Heights to the ‘Meadow Heights Community Centre’.
Council also approved the renaming of the ‘Meadow Heights Community Centre’ at 15 – 29 Buchan Street, Meadow Heights, to the ‘Buchan Street Community Centre’
4. Commonwealth Supported Travel Arrangements for the Baird Family
Council notes with concern reports that the Commonwealth Department of Veterans’ Affairs has revoked long-standing travel support arrangements previously provided to his parents Doug & Kaye Baird.
Council made a commitment to write to the Department, Federal Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, and relevant local MPs calling on the Commonwealth Government to reconsider this decision.
5. Congratulations
