Council seeking applications for Hume Charitable Fund

Changes are being made to the Hume Charitable Fund to increase the positive community benefits that can be achieved through donations to our most vulnerable community members.

This follows a decision at a December 2025 Council Meeting requesting that we seek to increase the visibility of the work being done by the Hume Charitable Fund while also improving its operation.

Established in 2004 to support and distribute funds to charities in Hume City, the Hume Charitable Fund has a proud history of resourcing projects that benefit our community, having given out around $200,000 in donations gifted by Hume residents, businesses, service clubs and other donors.

While this has provided great benefits to recipients throughout its time in operation, it is felt there is more work that can be done - particularly around awareness and how recipients are chosen - to ensure funds are making their way to where they’re needed most.

Beginning in 2027, Council will appoint a formal committee to assess applications for charitable funding, actively promote the fund to the community, and commit an annual contribution from the council budget.

It is hoped that awareness and formalisation of the funding process will not only encourage those in need to apply but also encourage more donations from the many businesses in Hume looking to give back to the community.

Council is now calling for Direct Gift Recipient (DGR) status organisations to apply for funding through the existing grants database which will be considered at the Council Meeting on Monday 22 June 2026.

Applications can be made through this Expression of Interest form.
