Mayor Carly Moore’s Statement on Craigieburn Fatality

No family should ever have to endure the loss of a child, and my thoughts are with this family during this unimaginably difficult time.

On behalf of Council and the wider Hume community, we offer heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, school community, and all those who knew and loved him.

This level of violence is completely unacceptable. The fact that we are seeing these kinds of incidents far too often should concern every member of our community.

This tragedy has had a profound impact on loved ones, witnesses, first responders and the broader community and I know many people will be feeling shocked, distressed and deeply saddened. We encourage anyone affected by this event to seek support from family, friends or professional services.

We ask that people respect the privacy of those impacted and allow Victoria Police to undertake their investigation. 

Hume is a strong and caring community, and in times of tragedy we come together to support one another.

Council will continue to monitor the situation and seek appropriate updates from Victoria Police where matters relate to the wellbeing and safety of our community.
